Arturo Mariano Iannace holds a PhD in Cognitive and Cultural Systems from the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca. Current research interests concern political and military history, and the economic, cultural, and social development of Italian ‘Aree Interne’. He works at the Agenzia delle Dogane e Monopoli (Italian Customs Agency).

He is Ordinary Member of the Game Science Research Center, where he began the development of gaming prototypes for university and school-level teaching and learning of history. He collaborated with the Centro Alti Studi per la Difesa (CASD) for the institution of the first Italian Wargaming Lab, and still pursues this line of inquiry with particular interest for the use of wargaming and serious gaming for research in the fields of politics, political economy, and defense.
