Sandro Sousa, Research Lead
Sandro leads the GIE Foundation’s research team, overseeing the development of high-impact research projects and providing technical guidance on topic selection, methodology, and feasibility. He ensures that GIEF’s work is grounded in rigorous analysis and aligned with the foundation’s mission to inform decision-making on complex global challenges.
An associate professor at the University of Copenhagen and multidisciplinary researcher, Sandro specializes in complex systems, network science, and population dynamics. His work combines data science, spatial modelling, and computational methods to explore issues such as urban segregation, epidemic spread, and scientific inequality. His current focus is on the impact of extreme climate events on population movement.
Sandro is also a postdoctoral researcher with the NERDS group at the IT University of Copenhagen. He holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from Queen Mary University of London and spent over seven years in IT consulting prior to his academic career.
