Tom Walsh, Chairman of the Board, Director
Tom serves as Chairman of the Board at the GIE Foundation, bringing deep experience at the intersection of public health, international development, and strategic advocacy. He supports the foundation’s mission with decades of leadership across government, philanthropy, and nonprofit sectors.
Tom is Vice President for Operations at the Trinity Forum in Washington, DC. Previously, he led global advocacy and communications for the Global Solidarity Fund, and spent several years with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Washington and London.
From 2004 to 2012, Tom served in the U.S. State Department as deputy head and chief of staff of PEPFAR, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. During the 2009 presidential transition, he served as acting head of the program, helping ensure its continued role as a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy. He previously worked on U.S. domestic health policy at the Senate Finance Committee.
Tom holds degrees from Duke University, the University of Texas School of Law, and Harvard University (MPH). He is also a former Jeopardy! champion.
